What’s this? Footage from a 2005 Protomen show featuring Unrest, Will of One, and Vengeance? And something about Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out? No, it’s not an April Fool’s joke. It’s a Nashville cable access show from six years ago, and it’s awesome.
Sons of Fate still has a special place in my heart, maybe because I didn’t get to see it live until the Danbury show last fall, which would have been my eighth Protomen show. I’ve still only seen it live a handful of times, and it’s special every time.
Last night I was on the subway home, and a dude standing near me noticed my Protomen wallet when I took it out to put my Metrocard away. He was also a fan, so we started chatting about the band, which turned into chatting about other fans we knew.
He started telling me about this one totally crazy NYC fan he knows who takes the entire band out to dinner every time they’re in town, and lets half of them them stay in her apartment, and has these epic hotel parties at conventions and stuff. I was just about to say that this sounds like someone I should really be friends with because we have a lot in common, when he added that oh yeah, she also has a big Protomen back tattoo designed by the guy who did the Act II album art. Then I realized what was happening.
A stranger on the subway told me a story about me, in an attempt to impress me. I can’t even.

Speaking of tough drummers, here’s one of the videos Onslaught mentioned yesterday in which Reanimator performs some awesomely death-defying shit. The good shit starts about 30 seconds in. MUST WATCH.

I was also in the balcony when this happened, and was pretty sure I was about to see Reanimator either break bones or drums.
I have a special treat for Protomen fans, but only a select few of you! If you attended the Light Up the Night video shoot last month in Brooklyn, you will certainly recall that those who stayed up late were treated to a private mini-concert.
You will also recall that we were instructed that this concert was only for those who actually worked all day at the shoot (stairs and shushing and all). As such, while I have fabulous video of Beards Going Nowhere from this show, you will have to demonstrate to me that you were at the shoot before you will be allowed to see it. Send me a message with sufficient proof, and you will receive further instructions!
Get down from there Reanimator. That is a pretty sweet lighting setup, we’ve noticed as well, but still…

Last night was pretty much a perfect New York evening, the kind that makes me happier than I can say with my life as it is right now. And I don’t think there’s a better way to spend the evening of the 4th than at a picnic on the roof of the McKittrick, watching fireworks with friends & fellow drunks.
eleven years ago tonight! I believe this was the only 4th of july event the mckittrick has ever had, and it was also the first event held at gallow green.
