I just went through my own Halloween 2015 tag and I have to say I think this year’s festivities might have been the best yet. Good work, everyone.
I just want to make sure we’re all aware that Macaron Parlour has pumpkin spice and apple cider caramel macarons.
As a film, Crimson Peak is astonishingly bad. It’s gorgeous, of course, and if you can laugh at the badness instead of being annoyed by it, it still makes for a fun spoopy night out with friends… but it’s definitely real bad. My companions and I had to take a few minutes in the lobby afterward to exchange various expressions of “THEY SPENT ALL THAT TIME WORKING UP TO [REDACTED] AND NOTHING CAME OF IT” and “BUT WHY DIDN’T [REDACTED] JUST [REDACTED]” but I can still see myself watching it again in a year when I’m drunk and it shows up on Netflix.
This year I remembered the important strategy I failed to grasp last year, which is that first you should carve your pumpkin friend and then give yourself adorable Halloween nailz. Otherwise, between the pumpkin guts and frequent hand washing and knife usage, your nailz end up chipped like an hour after they are painted which is maybe the most maddening thing in the world.
Shanghai Mermaid’s Victorian Seance on Saturday was basically everything I need in a party - beautiful friends, ghosts, fire dancing, an actual seance, spirit photography, dead pirates, theremin performance, abundant prosecco, and an excuse to wear my crystal spider brooch.
I am so bummed that I can’t make it to this, but you should absolutely go on my behalf and take a ton of pictures that I can look at later… privately.
@lilymischief had a Fall Day party and there was pumpkin soup and pizza monkey bread and pumpkin cheesecake and novelty Halloween beer and pumpkin carving and it was great, just great.
Normally for Halloween I treat myself to fancy chocolate like this coffin of monster truffles, but this year I went with bath stuff instead and I have no regrets. Two bath bombs and two shower gels means at least a couple of perfect witch baths.
Trader Joe’s is crushing it in the seasonal snack treat department.
Eventually all my year-round home decor will be things I bought from Pottery Barn at Halloween. That’s also where I got these snack cauldrons a couple years ago:
