I had a lovely time at Then She Fell, and am looking forward to going back on Friday. I’m all in favor of pretty much any theatre experience that involves doing mystery shots.
In addition to having a totally decent burger, Dutch Boy Burger in Brooklyn also has a pretty fucking ridiculous drink menu of which I wholly approve. Here is my fancy friend Kyra enjoying a bourbon milkshake.
This is why it’s advisable to go to Original Cyn on Mondays: there is whiskey, there are naked ladies, there are ridiculously attractive friends, and you might win a flogger made out of recycled bicycle tires. It just sets the tone for the whole week.
My night: the best pizza ever with muffins, then Chillbrave, Danimal Cannon, and Knife City at Control Flow. Bit Shifter was there too, but I bailed to go hang out with a pretty lady I know. Octo was not there.
No, I’m not over the Andrew Bird show yet. There are a bunch of great photos up on Brooklyn Vegan, including one of me looking blissed-out in artsy black & white. There’s also a writeup and awesome video over on Gothamist. And if it’s shitty videos you want, I’ve got that covered too.
On Friday afternoon, my gentleman caller informed me about a just-announced secret Andrew Bird show the following night. This is perhaps the first time I have actually found out about a secret show in time to get tickets, and though I had to blow off some of my other Saturday plans to attend, it was completely worth it. It was wonderful seeing him in such a small intimate venue, and I happened to score perhaps the best spot in the room which didn’t hurt, either.
The band played the entire new (unreleased) album from start to finish, as well as some other treats. And unlike most sold out shows I see in Brooklyn, there wasn’t a single asshole in the crowd, at least not that I could tell. Everyone was totally into it, just standing there completely rapt with big dumb grins the whole time. I know I was.
MC Frontalot, my nerdcore spirit guide and longtime pal, performs Just Once at the Knitting Factory on 12 November.
Schaffer the Darklord, libertine of libery, performs Tomgirl at his birthday show on 12 November. This is one of my favorite of STD’s new jams.
Photos from John Hodgman’s book release party at The Bell House on 1 November 2011, which I attended with my bestie Muffins. Also featured: former feral mountain man Jonathan Coulton and newly feral Paul Rudd. You should totally buy That Is All.
MC Frontalot, my favorite of all the Damians, performs Stoop Sale at the Knitting Factory on 12 November. This is my favorite jam from his new album Solved, which you should purchase at your earliest convenience if you have not already done so.
Photos from the MC Frontalot & Schaffer the Darklord show at the Knitting Factory on 12 November. We were also celebrating the birthday of our Darklord, which was cause for fun tiny hats. Lefty and I fangirled out.
