See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Seeing Andrew Bird live is always something to look forward to, but last night’s show at Le Poisson Rouge was a particular treat. Typically I see him at large, beautiful, seated venues - Beacon Theatre, Riverside Church, the Grand Opera House in Wilmington - but LPR is a small club that mostly does general admission shows. So it was a fun change of pace, comparable in my experience only to the secret show at The Bell House a couple years back.

It was also a nice crowd - friendly and polite even in their heckling (”WE’RE HAVING SUCH A GOOD TIME!” “YOU’RE DOING A GREAT JOB!”). Before the show I had started to wonder if maybe I was too old for the bullshit factor inherent in an all-ages standing GA show but I had a total blast and left the venue feeling happier than I would have thought possible.

Anonymous asked:

Top 5 albums ever?

Okay, I’m doing for-me-personally, not in-the-history-of-the-world. Note that this list does not map perfectly to my top 5 bands ever.

  1. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
  2. Skinny Puppy - Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse
  3. Tom Waits - Bone Machine
  4. Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
  5. Depeche Mode - Violator

Honorable mentions:

  • The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come
  • Salt-n-Pepa - Very Necessary
  • Ministry - The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste
  • The Protomen - Act II: The Father of Death
  • Andrew Bird - Break It Yourself

Danimal Cannon and Zef - Parallel Processing

Anyone even remotely familiar with chipmusic in 2012 will tell you that Danimal Cannon and Zef, individually, were already forces to be reckoned with. Dan mentioned this collab to me several months ago, likely at a show and when it was just starting to form.

What often feels like the most bizarre and somewhat metal face-off of dueling Gameboys turns into an extended jam session between two of the more brilliant programmers of the medium. Danimal Cannon’s melodies lead Zef’s chunky electro hits through what I can only assume is the musical equivalent of walking across the multiverse.

You can check out more of Danimal Cannon’s music at his Bandcamp or his band’s Bandcamp (who just released a new album a week ago!). ALSO, Fangamer has teamed up with Danimal Cannon to offer a merch bundle. DON’T MISS IT

You can find more of Zef’s music at his Bandcamp or his Soundcloud, where he posts improv sounds and experiments as well as finished tracks.

Finally, I have one download code for a lucky person who reblogs this post. I’ll pick a winner at random on Friday, January 17th at 11 pm EST from the people who reblog this post. Make sure you have your /ask box open so I can get you the download details if you win!

Last week I was at Knitting Factory for Sexy Badass Girl Rock Fest, primarily to see my friends Mancie. But I was also totally blown away by The Hotcakes, who have a powerful stage presence and are tons of fun. They’re playing Mercury Lounge in November, and I urge you to check it out if you’re in the area.
