Danimal Cannon and Zef - Parallel Processing

Anyone even remotely familiar with chipmusic in 2012 will tell you that Danimal Cannon and Zef, individually, were already forces to be reckoned with. Dan mentioned this collab to me several months ago, likely at a show and when it was just starting to form.

What often feels like the most bizarre and somewhat metal face-off of dueling Gameboys turns into an extended jam session between two of the more brilliant programmers of the medium. Danimal Cannon’s melodies lead Zef’s chunky electro hits through what I can only assume is the musical equivalent of walking across the multiverse.

You can check out more of Danimal Cannon’s music at his Bandcamp or his band’s Bandcamp (who just released a new album a week ago!). ALSO, Fangamer has teamed up with Danimal Cannon to offer a merch bundle. DON’T MISS IT

You can find more of Zef’s music at his Bandcamp or his Soundcloud, where he posts improv sounds and experiments as well as finished tracks.

Finally, I have one download code for a lucky person who reblogs this post. I’ll pick a winner at random on Friday, January 17th at 11 pm EST from the people who reblog this post. Make sure you have your /ask box open so I can get you the download details if you win!

Though I’ve gone to a million fucking chiptune shows in the past couple of years, somehow Saturday night was the first time I made it to Pulsewave. (I know!) The lineup this month was pretty irresistible though: Danimal Cannon (also of Metroid Metal and Armcannon fame), b4kn (who puts the Jonathan in George & Jonathan) and Knife City who is one of my favorite local musicians of any genre. There were beers and beats and awesome face and someone brought a dog, so what more could you really ask for? I posted my Knife City video already, but there’s some more over on my Vimeo page.

To cleanse your brainmeats after that disaster, please to enjoy this brief but delectable clip of Knife City on Saturday night at Blip Festival. You know, I’m bummed to have missed Starscream, Nullsleep, Henry Homesweet, and everyone else, but more than anything I’m bummed to have missed Knife City. With luck the rest of this set will surface at some point, but in the meantime, here’s hoping Luke does another NYC show soon.

Homeward bound

Well, it has once again been quite a week. I enjoyed meeting a bunch of you at the Brooklyn Blogger Meetup on Tuesday - I was too busy drinking and shaking hands and finding places to tuck business cards to take any photos, but picture The Bell House full of rowdy nerds with nametags and you’ve got the general idea.

The other big thing last week was, of course, Blip Festival 2011. Ran into a ton of people from out of town that I’ve met at other events (MAGFest, Nerdapalooza, PAX East) and all the usual suspects I see at other NYC chip shows. There were cupcakes, and 3D printers, and many cups of Six Point Sweet Action, and just a shit ton of really great music. I was only able to attend the first night as I was out of town over the weekend, but it was still a great time. I’ve included a few of my favorite photos below, but you can find the rest over on Flickr and a bunch of videos on my Vimeo page.

As for the weekend, I headed home to Massachusetts to do some family-type things with my family-type people. We actually had a few hours of sun on Saturday, during which I created this panorama of my parents’ yard, and this one too. You’ll need Silverlight to see them, and I wholly understand if you prefer not to install it. Just imagine a bunch of trees, and some grass, and also a bit of sun.

Here is a picture of my parents’ dog, who does not like having her picture taken.

No pictures, please
