Cats On The Internets
Because at the end of the day my weblog comes down to cat stories and video games, I thought I would give you a Tigger update: he’s settled into the new apartment and has begun happily destroying our new couch. Declawing him isn’t really an option, so we’ve been trying various ways of keeping him from scratching. Latest and most effective is a scratch mat I ordered, but we’re also trying a cat...
Back
I’m back in New York after a lovely and relaxing week at the folks’ house in Massachusetts. We had a lot of snow and a lot of Christmas, but I don’t think I touched a computer except to ogle the Moms’s new iMac once or twice. I definitely didn’t check any mail, and I didn’t read any weblogs, and I have to say it was pretty nice to take a vacation from all of the...
AFK
In a few hours I’ll be heading home for Christmas, so I probably won’t be posting much between now and Tuesday, when I get back. While the Moms does have a shiny new iMac that I could make use of, I bet I’ll be spending more time wrapping presents and making cookies than reading Mac news. And I won’t be playing any Warcraft at all. I’m pretty sure I’ll live.
Only In An MMORPG
When I got home from work today, I noticed that there was a new Warcraft patch. After installing it, I landed in Ironforge to find that they’ve added a bunch of Christmas stuff - goblins selling snowballs and candy canes, a dwarf in a Santa costume who gives you a quest to find gingerbread cookies, etc. It was pretty goofy to see a huge snowball fight erupt in Tinker Town, but nobody seemed...
Proud Member of the Alliance
Do I even have to tell you what I did all weekend? You know perfectly well I was playing WoW, with only occasional breaks so I could eat and pee. I’m still with my night elf hunter, who’s leveling up slowly since I share my WoW time with Chris. I had been doing quests in Darkshore, but this weekend I made the trek to Ironforge and Stormwind to do some humany quests. Since I play with...
Wily Warcraftians
I am sorry that I didn’t post anything yesterday, but my hunter just wouldn’t let me get away for even a minute. She always wants to do quests and kill beasties and feed her pet! And then eventually the fearsome Chris hijacks my Mac entirely to devote some time to his fiendish warlock. So you can see my problem.
One thing we’ve both noticed (where “we” is me and...
I Love The Internets
A few weeks ago I mentioned that I’ve been reading more sci-fi and fantasy lately, and a reader – nay, a goddess incarnate – who works at Tor promptly sent along a big box of books, mostly ones I’ve never read and none of which I currently own.
So tonight I thought I’d mention that I really, really like money. And, um, ice cream! If you’re fabulously wealthy and/or work at Ben & Jerry’s,...
Where's The God Damned Snow
So it’s the middle of December and we still haven’t had any snow yet. I have a feeling that this winter will be like the snowless winter we had a couple of years ago - or if not snowless, at least not very snowful. Snowy. Snowtastic. Chris and I have been waiting to see what Roosevelt Island looks like buried in snow, because we think it will look spectacular.
Next Thursday I’m...
I Will Never Talk About Anything Else Again
Yeah, I’m still playing entirely too much WoW. I’m glad I started over on a different server, because now that I’m playing with Zot it’s a lot easier to do some of the quests. Hunters are pretty good at going solo I think, but it’s handy to have a druid around when you’re getting mobbed by beasties. Also, I have my very own cat as a pet now, and I love it very...
WoW: Part Two
So, you know how I only played about half an hour of WoW on Friday? Well, I haven’t really done anything except play it since then. If I didn’t have to log out once in a while so that Chris could play his undead warlock, I’d probably forget to sleep and eat. Everyone from #caoine thinks it’s high-larious that this is my first MMPORG and I’m already addicted, but...
WoW
I finally got around to picking up World of Warcraft, but it took so long to install and patch that I only played for about half an hour tonight. And of course I managed to die twice during that time, but I was still impressed by the graphics and gameplay. Tomorrow I’ll get into it more, I suspect, and then you’ll never hear from me again.
Oh Yeah, The Thesis
Every once in a while, someone emails me to remind me that I promised way back in April to post my senior thesis for those interested in reading it. I’ve since decided that I’m not actually going to post it on the web after all. It’s not that I’m shy about the paper, it’s just that the only other time I have posted a paper on the web, someone tried to turn it in as...
Dilemma
I don’t know which is the best part of my day: sitting down in front of our living room window with a cup of coffee in the morning to watch Manhattan go from grey to red and wait for my hair to dry, or stepping out of the train station at night and seeing the Queensboro bridge all lit up directly above the island and the city a few hundred feet across the river. It’s worth noting that...
Pikmin Are Better Than Unpacking
I know I’m supposed to be spending my evenings unpacking like a good little tenant, but it’s a lot more fun to make hot chocolate and play Pikmin 2. There’s nothing like delving deeper into the hole of beasts, after all.
I did a little more Christmas shopping on my way home from work today, and I think I’m more or less done, which is nice. I’ll probably place...
Ever So Subtle
Given that Christmas is a mere seventeen days away (and that my birthday is next month), is it too early to start discreetly pointing out my Amazon wish list? I sure hope not.
Books
We are still living in a land of many boxes, but the rest of our furniture arrived from IKEA today so it’s are starting to look more like a real apartment around here. Also: I have a truly amazing number of books. I have more books than Chris does, and Chris has a lot of books. I didn’t quite realize how many I had before the move, because many of them were being stored in boxes since...
You: Obey The Fist
It seems unfair that it’s December and it’s still raining. Where’s the god damned snow, already? By April, of course, I’ll be tired of seeing big black dirty heaps of it piled in the gutters, but it would be nice to have something other than drizzle between now and Christmas.
Islanders
I’m still getting a trickle of cat-related email, so I thought I’d give you an update. (Nothing says “Internets” like WEBLOGS AND CATS.) He was pretty freaked out over the move, which we were expecting. The first day he didn’t do much except pace around and yowl - he even started hissing at us briefly, and we didn’t get much sleep that night. By now he’s...
Moved
So we moved in to the new place and all is well, even if I still have to open five boxes every time I want to find one specific thing, and then moving those boxes around makes it so that I can’t find the right box the next time I go looking for a different specific thing.
The move itself was less than fun, as I guess most moves are. We hired movers this time around and there weren’t...
See You Friday
The time has come to pack up the computer. I’d like to note at this time that while my boyfriend will be mummifying his BSD box in bubble wrap and blankets, I still have the original boxes that my G4 and monitor came in (despite the fact that it’s been about four years and one move since I bought them). Sometimes it pays to be a pack rat.
