About This Site

My name is Emma Story. I live with my boyfriend Chris in New York City, where I work full time building websites. My specialty is front-end web development, but over the years I’ve done a little of everything. I am also a freelance writer.

Caoine.org is my personal website. I built the first version in February 1999 to share links and photos with friends, but I didn’t begin archiving the daily updates until mid-2000. The site itself has changed a great deal over the past eight years, but then again so have I.

I have a hard time writing about myself in general terms - if you want to get a sense of what I’m like, just pick a month out of the archives and start reading. But if that doesn’t do it for you, here’s what my friend Rands had to say about me a few years back:

When you consider Emma, you must first realize that it is her actual name. Emma is not her brand, nor is it the name of her band. Emma is Emma Story and while the name may sound made up, it’s not.

Emma probably knows more than she lets on. She wouldn’t tell you this, but I will.

She can argue philosophy with you or she can give you significant advice about your hair, but she’ll tune you out when you get dull. It’s important to know that you will not know when you’ve been tuned out.

She claims that she’s not “exactly a friendly person,” but I think what she means is that “she doesn’t have time for mediocrity.”

Emma reads a lot. She has an aptitude with words. If you happen to type a particularly interesting phrase, she’ll tell you. Emma wants to be a writer, but she does not yet know this.

You can learn more about Emma from her Amazon wish list than her weblog.

New York City is Emma’s home currently, but in five years it will not be. She detests the humidity, but loves the humanity. When she’s 85, she’ll talk fondly to friends of her years in New York and she’ll still have great hair.
