  1. Lost. Chris and I held out for years, but we finally rented the first season from Netflix and have been going through it pretty quickly. To a certain extent I feel like it suffers from American action movie syndrome, in that a significant percentage of the dialogue makes me want to kill myself and everyone important has to have Protagonist Hair. But I cannot deny that I’ve gotten sucked in, and I’m actually digging it despite my complaints.
  2. Wordpress 2.5. My WP install was upgraded this week, and I have been very pleased with it so far. I still don’t miss MovableType even a little bit.
  3. Working in Chelsea/Flatiron. My last couple of jobs have been farther downtown, first in the Financial District (boring, expensive, full of suits) and then SoHo (fun, expensive, full of tourists). It’s nice being back in what I think of as a more normal neighborhood. It’s a little less crowded, a little less expensive, and it’s walking distance from Shake Shack. How can I complain?
  4. World of Warcraft. Yeah, I’ve been playing again. I’m still retired from raiding so I only log a couple hours a week, but I’ve been enjoying the new Sunwell content and I’m looking forward to the next expansion.
  5. Pike Place Roast. It doesn’t compare to MudTruck Blend, but as my new neighborhood is rich in Starbucks and poor in Mud Trucks, it does the job. Does not taste burned, which has been my chief complaint regarding most other Starbucks blends.

I also was rather late to the Lost party. My sister bought me the season one DVD and I was totally hooked after that. Stick with it, even through the rough patches. It gets good. Really good. Then a bit crap, but then good again.

The MudSpot coffee blend is one of the very best in the city. I adore it. Although I am a fan of rich, strong coffee, I have found that over the last decade or so, Starbucks has been pushing burnt, stale beans that taste awful. Although I often go there in desperation (in some parts of the city it’s the only place to go if you don’t want nasty deli drip), I have other destinations when I want a decent cup.

I have to say that I’m very pleased with the direction that Starbucks has decided to move in. It seems they suddenly realized again that they sell coffee. The Pike Place roast, though not as dark and strong as I usually prefer, is their most palatable blend in a very long time. The fact that they are posting roast dates now and grinding a new batch every 30 minutes is downright thrilling.

If you want an insanely amazing cup of coffee, you should check out Cafe Grumpy on 20th Street, between 7th and 8th. The best cup in the city, bar none. It’s only a stone’s throw from flatiron.

I noticed some change with Starbucks while down in San Diego. They consistently gave me cups which tasted like real coffee, and not like something brewed from beans which had the life roasted entirely out of them. However that apparently has not made it up here to LA, where they still make the burnt, truck stop grade stuff and are more interested in pushing drinks belonging in a Dairy Queen. For the quick hits near the office I still prefer Coffee Bean.

I’m going to crack open that bag of Mud Truck this weekend and see how that compares.

Isle of Quel’Danas dailies = money money money, I love it :) And I don’t know if you PvP but Season4 gear is just around the corner!
