The Brothers Grimm

Chris and I finally watched The Brothers Grimm over the weekend, without having read any of the reviews or having seen more than a teaser. We had only the vaguest notion that Matt Damon was somehow involved, and no idea who wrote or directed it.

I’m sorry to say that the whole thing was disappointing, formulaic crap. Despite being thoroughly confused by the awkward pacing and bad accents, we were nonetheless able to predict the whole last half of the movie down to the final scene when we paused for drinks and skepticism about an hour in. The only surprising thing about the film was that it was directed by Terry Gilliam, whose work we usually adore.

I should probably note, though, that Chris and I are a tough crowd. Many of our friends have recommended movies that we’ve later watched and mocked mercilessly the whole way through. Maybe these are all perfectly decent productions, and we’re just jerks who don’t appreciate them.

You’re probably jerks, but that movie is still awful.

Tough crowd or not, that movie blew. An unfortunate blemish on Terry Gilliam’s otherwise awesome career.

Eh, it was a poor movie to begin with. Not to say it was horrid, it was certainly “watchable”, but only for a few reasons, and none that come to mind right now. It had barely any plot, and lacked creativity, and i wouldn’t watch it again.

The scenery was done well though.

The only things that insinuated Terry Gilliam’s style into the movie at all were the silly hats. Gilliam so loves silly hats.

“we’re just jerks who don’t appreciate them.”…how funny!!

I half watched that movie (I was doing paperwork at the time) and it was ok. I actually want to watch it again because I went to Prague last month and a tour guide told me it was filmed there. They film tons of movies there (didn’t know that before). He said that Matt Damon is a regular in town (the Bourne series).

BTW, if anyone is thinking of a place to visit in Europe, I’d highly recommend Prague….
