Away

I’m off to Massachusetts for the weekend, so it’s likely that you crazy kids will have to go without new posts for a couple of days. I will be busy lying in a hammock and neglecting the Interweb entirely, but I’m sure you all have your own Labor Day plans anyway (preferably ones that don’t involve labor).

School’s Out Forever

So this will only be the second fall ever (as long as you only count falls I can remember) that I won’t be going back to school. The first was the fall of 2000, in the middle of a leave of absence I took so I could keep my job and become an Internet Millionaire. And of course I did. (I keep my millions in a Hello Kitty lunch box under my bed.)

I was pretty glum about not being in school that fall because it wasn’t like I had finished school or anything - I just wasn’t there. I made up for it by playing a lot of Quake with friends and telling everyone how I didn’t need a bachelor’s because I was going to be an Internet Millionaire. (And by going clubbing a lot, if my archives are any indication).

This time around I’m not in school because I actually graduated and everything, but I admit I still wouldn’t turn down another couple years if I had the chance. Being an undergrad is a pretty sweet deal, really, and I don’t think that grad school will be the same kind of thing at all, even when I finally get around to going (and paying for it). On the other hand, when I have to answer that “Highest level of education completed” question on surveys and applications, I can now check the “BA/BS” box instead of the “Some college” box. Which rules.

Neener Neener

It’s amazing how much more video game playing and Invader Zim watching you can fit into a weekday once you shave off two or three hours of commuting and recovering from the commute. I just thought I’d mention it so that while you’re on your way to work tomorrow, you can think of me in my pajama bottoms, commuting from the kitchen to my desk.
