Full-Time Worker Bee

Stack O' Crap

I posted a while back about how I liked being a busy little freelancing worker bee, but I have to say it felt nice getting offered a job on the spot when I interviewed for a full-time web dev position earlier today. The company seems cool, the pay is good, the atomsphere is laid back, and the work is interesting. What more could a webmonkey want, really? I start Monday.

(Of course I’m not bailing on any of my present freelance clients, but this probably also means I won’t be available to start new stuff in the immediate future. And it also means I’ll have less time for Pokémon and Warcraft. It’s tough to be me.)

Hurts So Good

Pokemon

A friend sent over a copy of Pokémon Sapphire the other day and it’s been an effort of will to leave my GBA more or less untouched since then. I’ve got several things that each need most of my attention right now (which is a challenge in and of itself), but it’s so tempting to spend the next week finishing my Pokédex instead of doing things like, you know, eating and bathing. Maybe that’s what weekends are for.

MacBlog: The Macintosh Weblog

MacBlog

MacBlog, one of my other web projects, launched a couple of days ago, although you wouldn’t have known about it because we didn’t tell anyone. But now that we’re out of the completely rewriting templates phase and into the minor tweaking phase, I thought I’d point it out. MacBlog is a group weblog covering anything of interest to the Mac users - hardware, software, events, iPods, you name it. We’re always interested in new stories and new contributing writers, so feel free to drop me a line if either applies.

Fourth Of What, Now?

Sparkler!

Chris and I are not what you’d call a patriotic couple, and we didn’t do a whole lot to celebrate Independence Day. (We declined even to watch Independence Day on TV.) We spent today as we spend many of our Sundays - working on our respective projects and playing an awful lot of video games. But we also lit a box of sparklers, because you don’t have to be patriotic to think sparklers are pretty.

Tricky, But Not In A Good Way

Ruthless Ridge

Chris and I are still playing a lot of SSX3, but just for kicks we whipped out my copy of Tricky this afternoon. I couldn’t believe how sluggish everything felt and how crappy it looked, given that Tricky was one of my favorite games before SSX3 came out. The latter was released only a couple years later, but the gameplay is miles beyond its predecessor. I tried a couple of tracks with Kaori, and while it’s true that her outfits in Tricky are definitely cuter, I couldn’t bring myself to play for more than twenty minutes before I switched back to SSX3. I love me a real combo system, vastly improved graphics, and sensitive controls. (But when will we start hearing about SSX4?)

Skinny Puppy Concert Photos

Skinny Puppy

I’ve been getting a lot of Google referrers from people who search for photos from the Greater Wrong of the Right tour and find me instead. I did some photo hunting myself, so I thought I’d actually share what I’ve found so that those of you arriving here from Google aren’t frustrated.

These Boston photos are definitely the best collection from a single show I’ve seen yet, and they’re a good place to start (if you haven’t already seen them). There are a number of photos from Detroit as well - here and here. That second one is just a directory listing, so scroll down until you see the filenames containing normal_skinnypuppy. These photos from Chicago are from a cellphone or hiptop, as are these from Houston, so they’re pretty low quality, but still worth a look. Also be sure to check out photos from the Philly show and afterparty.

I’m not sure what shows these are from, but here are three more images. (Movement Magazine also has a great interview with the band, including audio clips.) These two were posted on the Litany messageboard, which is also a great place to read show reviews and find setlists. CyberOptix is responsible for the tour’s wardrobe, and while they haven’t officially posted any images of the costumes yet, you can catch the occasional glimpse or get some news from designer Bethany’s journal.

Updates: Found some photos from San Francisco and Atlanta. Photos from Paris are here and in this thread.

I’ll continue update this post as more pictures surface, so keep an eye out if you’re interested.

How Very Existential

Washington Arch

I got an email today questioning my existence, which is a new one. I mean, I question my own existence all the time, but I don’t think anyone’s ever done it for me. I guess in the wake of Kaycee Nicole and Plain Layne, we poor blogger chicks were bound to come under heightened suspicion. I’m tempted to describe it as something like an Orange Alert for the blogosphere, but then I’d have to use the word blogosphere. And then I’d have to kill myself.

So, I guess this is where I’m supposed to explain why I can’t possibly be a hoax-person, but I think all I’ll say is that if I were to make me up, I wouldn’t make myself need so much sleep. Seriously. Also, I would have written less embarrassing archives.
