Buzzzzzz

Three weeks ago I was drinking no more than one cup of coffee a day, if that. Of course, I was also getting plenty of sleep and not working full time. Now less than two weeks after starting at the new gig, I’m back up to three or four a day, including but not limited to two cups of drip in the morning (one at home, one on my way into the office), another drip or a latte after lunch, and a now-essential double espresso between 3 and 4pm. Soon I’ll just begin having caffeine injected directly into my bloodstream, and my return to the addiction will be complete. I wonder how long until I start getting morning withdrawal headaches on weekends again?

This week: the Batcave 2001 nostalgia mix. Just light up a clove and surround yourself with some malodorous friends and you might as well be there! Although it would probably help the realism if you woke up later with a hangover and your clothes smelling like fog machine.

So Hot

I was going to write a post today, but then I saw the Dancing Voldo video and realized that nothing I could possibly post about would be more entertaining than watching the Dancing Voldo video. So you should go and watch that instead.

Meet The Pimp Drive

Chris and I use an external drive to house both of our mp3 collections, and the poor thing is so old and crusty that lately it’s started hanging during almost every simple copying operation we try to do with it. Things got particularly bad this morning, so we decided we needed to replace it today rather than have it die on us. We could restore the files from my iPod if we needed to, but only at the cost of sacrificing our directory structure and naming conventions (and we’re much too neurotic for that). Our requirements were this: it needed to be 120GB or more, around $200, and it needed to do both USB 2 and FireWire. We went to the CompUSA at Columbus Circle and discovered that there was in fact an external drive in stock that met our needs, but with one important caveat: it’s the ugliest hard drive in the entire world. We bought it anyway, but now I’m thinking maybe I should add a racing stripe to my tower, or start modding the cat to match.

Buy Them Now

I’m crazy tired and it’s entirely possible that I won’t wake up at all tomorrow, but in the meantime if you’re looking for something to do: go to an Apple store and buy in-ear headphones to go with your iPod. They fucking rule. The sound quality is great and and I can’t hear any background noise at all, even on the subway.

Since You Asked

Because why should I actually respond to my email when I can just reply here:

No, I’m not going to talk more about my job (nor would I even if I weren’t under NDA). But I will say that I love my little iPod more than ever, now that I’m commuting to the financial district every day. The 2 and 3 may be fast, but god damn are they crowded.

And speaking of the 2, there was this scruffy industrial kid on the next pole over rocking out to my Skinny Puppy this morning. This isn’t a frequently asked question, I just thought it was funny. For future reference: you look weird enough dancing to your own music on the subway, but it’s even more bizarre if you’re dancing to someone else’s.

Yes, you can submit stories to MacBlog, and I hope you will.

My hair is in fact my natural color right now. My natural color is brown. I’m scared too.

Odds And Ends

I’ve been updating the Skinny Puppy Concert Photos post as I come across new photos - if you have some that aren’t up there, let me know and I’ll add them.

Everyone’s bitching about it being cold and rainy, but I love it. This is what summer should be like all the time. Of course, now that I’ve mentioned it, it’s going to be in the eighties tomorrow (and sunny).

I went off caffeine for a while after graduation, mainly because I was freelancing and it didn’t matter if I stayed in my pajamas till noon and worked whenever I felt like it. But now that I actually have to get up at ass o’clock and go to the office every morning, I’m back up to two or three cups of coffee a day. Which still isn’t that much compared to my former habit, but it’s probably a sign of things to come.

MacBlog is turning out to be even more fun than I thought it would be, even if Daniel does keep posting in the mysterious future. It’s like he lives on the other side of the world or something.

And Bathing Too

1831

As expected, things are crazy again for a while as I try to fit everything else in around my new work schedule - freelance, sleep, weblogs, video games. I have been terrible about answering mail for the past few days and expect to continue to be terrible for the next few days, but things should settle down soon. I miss you too, Interweb.

Tigger

I went clothes shopping in midtown this afternoon, and then remembered why I try to never go clothes shopping in midtown on a weekend afternoon. But I did get some great swag for cheap, and the only really unfortunate part was that I had to lug it all up five flights of stairs when I got home because our elevator was being serviced. But I feel that new clothes are worth a little stair-climbing, really.
