Enough Already

First, Google announced a while ago that they’re working on a weblog-specific search function. Fine, whatever. Then Andrew Orlowski, also known as One Of The Reasons I Don’t Read The Register, announced that in addition, weblogs would be removed from the main search results. The thing is, Orlowski was full of crap - surprise surprise - and his central “source” for this information was, of all things, a Slashdot comment from the thread there about William Gibson’s weblog. Evhead pointed out Orlowski’s crap quotient. Amazingly, someone then submitted the Register article as a story to Slashdot about how weblogs would be removed from the main Google search, never mind that the suggestion originated with Slashdot, and not from anyone at Google. Finally, Dave Winer has posted a note he received from Google PR confirming that no, weblogs aren’t going to be removed.

So, to sum up: please stop emailing me about that god damned Register article. It wouldn’t even be that interesting if it were true. It’s true that I write a weblog, and that I read other people’s weblogs, but believe it or not I’m actually not at all fond of reading writing about weblogs. And I think if I hear the word “blogosphere” again, I’ll cry.
