may i have a nerd moment

all my grades are finally in and i’ve got a 3.8 for the semester, including a 98 on the ethics final. may i do a little dance? why, thank you. doesn’t beat my 4.0 from first semester freshman year, but that was first semester freshman year - i was still full of high school zeal and a healthy dose of terror.

currently reading: hilary putnam’s the threefold cord. it’s a collection of some of his lectures and is surprisingly readable, given the content. thanks to justin for the recommendation on this one.

holy god

i think as soon as i get some of this, i’m never leaving my shower again.

round and round we go

remember the chick who dumped essentially my entire weblog into a livejournal? she’s back, and even less subtle this time. wouldn’t expect her to be around for long, however - while geocities abuse may take second place to the incredible swiftness of the livejournal support staff, it’s a close second. while this sort of thing happens with rather startling frequency - i’d say at least a dozen instances over the years of entire sites created with my material, and even more where it’s just an image or two - it’s not usually the same person more than once. it makes you wonder, really; if she (or he, i suppose) can devote this amount of time to modifying and reposting my content, perhaps it would have been more efficient to just create new things?

have you seen the backpacks

now that nintendo has followed suit and announced a price drop on the gamecube, my dark desire to have one of my very own has begun to grow at an even more alarming rate. when those other price cuts started popping up, i was tempted, sure. i have no desire to own an xbox for its own sake, but eventually i’m just going to have to play jsrf, there’s no getting around that. and a ps2 is undeniably good fun. but a cube, now - only that inspires actual lust, as far as i’m concerned. i babysat colin’s while he was in london (and then some) and i got horribly, horribly used to having it around; i’ve felt very keenly my own lack of cube since his went home. i find myself craving pikmin late at night, and there are moments when i reach for ssbm only to remember the horrible truth when i see the empty spot next to the tv. my old dreamcast is lovable but just doesn’t cut it anymore, and i only bought it perhaps a year and a half ago, just after it went down in price (to $100, i believe). i’ve been distracting myself with serious quantities of q3 from thoughts of slick little jet black consoles that look like lunchboxes, but i know it won’t last. sooner or later - quite possibly before the summer is out - i must own a cube.

by the way, i hear there’s still time to order a shirt. maybe you should go take care of that right now!

a recurring theme

did you know that mike’s hard lemonade is 5.2% alcohol? because i sure didn’t. it seems like such a pansy drink (until you polish off the better part of a sixpack). i’m actually quite fond of it, pansiness aside, and i’m told it’s got a couple of cousins i should check out - mike’s hard iced tea and hard cranberry lemonade. have we been over how much i love cranberry? because i could reiterate right now, if necessary. (i love cranberry.) has anyone tried these? are they vile?

thanks for the vitamin suggestions. some of you are clearly passionate about them (more power to you). although porkfry’s suggestion of these gummy bear vitamins is intriguing, i think i’m going to check out supernutrition. on the agenda for today: some work on a freelance project i started last week, and checking nyu student records another fifty million times to see if my grades have been posted yet. theoretically, professors are supposed to have submitted everything within 72 hours of the final, but that usually turns into 72 hours from the last day finals are held, and then another couple days are tacked on for good measure. so that’s always fun. i might also try to make it over to the brooklyn botanical garden; my membership expires in a couple of weeks so i want to milk it for all it’s worth until then.

mmm vitamins are good

so i’m about a week away from running out of my current bottle of multivitamins and it occurs to me that maybe when i get new ones i should switch brands. any recommendations? particularly great ones, or particularly horrible? right now i’m taking centrum, which tastes horrible but hasn’t killed me or anything, and an extra c supplement with riboflavin.

clones indeed

i don’t know if i’d pay for it, but i definitely want to see the photos if anyone does this. (on an unrelated note, i am glad ernie is posting again.)

a savage journey

we decided a while ago that this would be the last week we’d all go to swift’s until the end of the summer. yum some of us are away until the fall semester, some of us are making valiant attempts to take a vacation from drinking and general debauchery, some of us just can’t afford it. as such, it was deemed necessary to make a truly twisted night of it, a mission we accomplished (and then some). some of us arrived sporting new looks - i was blonde, al had glasses, chris had showered - which was entertaining. the available evidence only hints at the incredible inebriation incurred by all involved. we made all the mistakes people who are already drunk tend to make - we switched between pints and shots and cocktails and good lord knows what else, and some of us even attmepted to eat (shock, horror). the original, hazily-formulated plan had been that we’d drink at the bar until we could drink no more, then we’d head over to a new wave club and continue the process. we actually got our eighties fix before we even left, thanks to an affable dj. around nine or ten he started in with some prince and eurythmics and played more or less everything we asked for until we staggered out. this was fortunate, because the club we eventually piled into cabs and arrived at turned out to be closed. undeterred, we hit another one and capped off the night with yet more completely superfluous alcohol. i don’t remember how i got home, but apparently i did, and all i’ve got to show for it this morning is a minor hangover of the fuzzy-headed variety. not bad, indeed.

my god

i realize i didn’t update yesterday. i have no excuse! please accept these pictures from last night as my sincerest apology. (no, the glasses aren’t mine.)
