today

tomorrow marks two years exactly since i met spencer. it seems incredible that it was two years ago already, but it was. this was when i was still working with clifford on byzantium (which closed a long time ago). i think cliff and i were coming from a byzantium meeting and decided to walk over to mother (which has also since closed) and check out contempt. we got to the club a bit early, so we stopped in at dizzy izzy’s bagels (also closed!) for a snack. spencer showed up with jean (amazing cool photography chick from fit) and since he knew cliff we all got introduced and everything. and then of course six months later i was working at a designer at the same company he’s a sys admin for and we were sharing his place in brooklyn, in which i still live. life is nutty like that. we’re going to dinner tomorrow night to be all nostalgic and stuff.

it’s also been almost a year since i met gundam - the seventeenth will be the exact day. we’d talked on irc for a while before that but i didn’t actually meet him till i went to sphere for the first time. i’ll be in seattle on the seventeenth this year, but the night i get back we’re also going out to celebrate.

the fall, specifically halloween, has always been much more of an occasion for me than january first. maybe it’s because i’m still thinking in school patterns, but i mark my years from october to september, and late fall is when i tend to think about the past twelve months and get all sentimental. new year’s itself, if i celebrate it at all, tends to be something of a letdown because it’s always struck me as sort of redundant. i feel like i’m celebrating a year that’s already a couple months old. not that i don’t like an excuse to go out or what have you, but it’s just not that big a deal. halloween is new year’s eve as far as i’m concerned.

i got another bouquet of mystery roses today - these are a vivid pink and i found them wrapped in tissue paper and tied to my front gate. no note. this isn’t the first time this has happened, so i think it’s probably time for me to comment on the fact that while i do love flowers (especially spray roses), i find the whole anonymous thing to be just the littlest bit creepy.

other than that, sort of an uneventful day. i hit the farmer’s market to get more greens for the iguana and picked up a teeny pumpkin pie for gundam, which i dropped off at his office and hung around for a while. i like the atmosphere at team5. everyone’s really friendly. i wasn’t feeling that great today (in fact, i’m about to go curl up with some vanilla ice cream and a handful of midol) so i didn’t stay too long, and since i had to go through the market again to get to the subway i got a bag of apples and a mushroom quiche to take home.

a couple little things before i forget: i bought invader-zim.net a couple weeks ago, on a whim, and although there’s not much there yet i’ve been having fun with its various alias possibilities. i can now be reached at gir@invader-zim.net as well as my other addresses. also, since villainous.org is finally being used by the ever-adorable gundam, you can also mail me at super@villainous.org. more randomness: check out a few photos from halloween right here.

today

paid rent yesterday. it’s not much fun forking over seven hundred dollars to an old guy i don’t like much, but i do rather enjoy having an apartment. so it could be worse.

gundam and i went to his place after work yesterday. every time i go there, it’s obvious rain (the iguana) is growing. she’s eating better than she used to and it shows - she’s huge now, especially compared to the first time i saw her. we’re going to need to get her a bigger cage soon for more iguana climbing fun. we let her out since she seemed happy to see us and was trying to climb up my arm, and she lay on my back for a while while we watched go. partway through, she climbed up to the back of my neck and started licking my ear, then tried to climb up on my head. she was feeling kind of playful, which is good, and started nipping at our fingers, which is bad. she doesn’t mean to, but her teeth hurt quite a bit sometimes. we put her back in her cage and gave her some more greens and she decided to snooze under her heat lamp.

the boy and i geeked around for a bit but we were both feeling kind of tired and grody so we went to bed farily early, what with having to catch the lirr back to the city at the ass crack of dawn again. sinibyte, who also shares the house, seemed to spend most of the night wandering up and down the hallway saying “werrrrrrd.”

tomorrow i think i’m going to go into manhattan to run some errands and hit the farmer’s market in union square, which is where we get the iguana’s greens. prolly have lunch with gundam as well. weeeeee.

today

i’ve had a relatively productive day so far. i usually spend most of sunday morning (or afternoon) in bed but i was up by eight today, and i spent a few hours cleaning my apartment. once i take my laundry in tonight or tomorrow it’s almost (but of course not completely) spotless. i need to pick up a couple more extension cords for the living room, but i finally got rid of the tangle of cables and powerstrips under my desk. everything is twist-tied and coiled and for once i actually know what all the plugs in my powerstrips go to. i cleaned out my entire desk and the shelves next to it, did dishes, and sorted my laundry. i think i’m going to vacuum in a little.

i think sometime this week i’m going to go back to the brooklyn botanical gardens and take photos for my grandma - she sent me the nicest card the other day saying she misses playing in the leaves with me when i was little. the trees are all turning now so the botanical garden is probably gorgeous right now. i haven’t been in a while even though i have a membership.

tomorrow night i think i’m going to gundam’s; i’m meeting him after work and we’ll probably go get food or something and then head back here or to li. i miss the iguana, i haven’t seen her since thursday. gundam and i don’t like kids at all but we adore reptiles and cats, and his iguana is the closest thing i have to a pet right now.

heard i didn’t miss much at batcave last night, but i’m looking forward to going next week anyway. the weekend after that i’ll be in seattle so i won’t be able to go. i can’t wait, though. it should be a lot of fun.

gonna go finish cleaning up now. hooray.

today

no batcave tonight. gundam and i were going to go, but we’re both on the broke side what with rent being due and everything, so we decided to skip it till next week. instead i’ve been cleaning my apartment and arguing grammar subtleties with jonathans. my name is emma, and i’m a nerd.

watched fight club again and finished the third harry poter; tycho says i’ll love it, but i probably won’t buy it till it’s out in paperback. i hate hardcovers. meanwhile i’m making my way through the lord of the rings again - finished the hobbit a couple weeks ago and i’m nearly done with fellowship of the ring. hooray.

tomorrow i’ll probably clean some more; my kitchen could use it. o the exciting life i lead!

today

i know, i know. i didn’t update yesterday. bad emma. i was going to - gundam were sprawling on his bed reading, and i said “i should go update my journal before i fall asleep” and i was actually about to get up, and then i fell asleep. the end.

halloween was fabulous, of course. how could it not be? i met gundam at his office and we had cupcakes with vince and sam - of whose fantastic pimp costume i will upload photos later - and lazed around for a while. the new bondage pants i ordered came (i had them shipped to his office) so i changed into them in the bathroom. i adore them. they’ve got zippers all over the legs and pockets everywhere and bondage straps on the back. the fabric is really soft and thick; they’re going to be perfect for club on saturday. they’re incredibly comfy, too.

eventually we got our stuff together from the office and went out for pizza at this little greek place down the street. really delicious pizza - their sicilian slices are huge and thick and soft and way more than i can eat, but tasty. while we were eating, two little kids came in with their mom and tried to trick or treat at the counter, but the owner didn’t have anything for them. we happened to have with us all the little candy bags i made up to hand out at gundam’s house - i bought these adorable little pumpkin patterned paper bags and filled them with candy a few days before halloween, and sealed them with pumpkin stickers. so we gave the kids a couple of them, which made them happy.

we were still a little early to pick up colin from his office, so we went for mochas and holed up in these huge squishy chairs next to the window. it was already getting dark and drizzly and misty. gorgeous. around 5:30 we walked over to colin’s office, which i adore. it’s almost entirely macs, and the walls are painted all different colors, and there’s snowglobes everywhere. these huge gorgeous nightmare before christmas ones that up and play music, alice in wonderland snowglobes, everything you could possibly think of. it’s so cool. i gave cupcakes to colin and delfin (for the sketch he drew for me the other day), and then colin and gundam and i hopped a cab to penn and drank red bulls on the lirr to gundam’s house.

we got home on the late side, so there weren’t that many trick or treaters still out, but we handed out some candy anyway. matt, killah, al, and straylight came over, and gundam ran out to the store to get some candles and a chocolate mousse cake, because it was colin’s birthday as well as halloween. we sang and ate cake and whatnot. woo. i decorated gundam’s bedroom with strings of orange and purple lights, and we lit candles and stuff and all piled in to watch sleepy hollow and the nightmare before christmas. we made a relatively early night of it since gundam had had to stay at work until five am the day before and i am still a little sick, so we were all pretty tired. the whole night was mad fun, though.

gundam took yesterday off a while ago in anticipation of wanting to sleep in, which worked out well, because that’s exactly what we did. eventually we woke up enough to order a pizza and watch beetlejuice and edward scissorhands. we spent most of the rest of the day geeking and reading in bed, since neither of us was feeling terribly energetic. i read the first harry potter book in about three hours; a fast read but not as dumb as i was expecting, not at all. i wanted to read it since i’m going to be going to the opening of the movie in a couple of weeks with gabe and tycho while i’m in seattle, so i wanted to be prepared. i’m halfway through the second one now; i started it on the train this morning.

and now i’m going to go make myself some breakfast and take a shower, i think. yay. pictures from halloween are forthcoming - including al sitting on a twelve pack of beer and matt’s new forelocked head.
