today

i ended up going to bed quite late last night; i got wrapped up in trying to finish jet grind radio (which i finally did this morning - that god damn turntable was kicking my ass) and trying to finish the two towers (which i did last night). i’m now making my way through the return of the king. needless to say, i’m counting the days till the lotr movie is released. what i’ve seen of it is promising - visually it looks stunning, and the casting so far appears to be perfect. i would never have pictured elijah wood as frodo, but it works. he’s got the right face for it. i just hope the movie isn’t a big disappointment - along the lines of the phantom menace, or what have you. i’ve been waiting for it so long that it will have to be awfully good to not make me feel let down, but maybe it will be awfully good.

gundam is on his way over for chinese food and probably a movie or something. i have been craving vegetable lo mein all day. i don’t know what we’ll watch with it. i’m in a very lotr mood, but i hate those god damned animated versions. they irritate me to no end.

whatever was up with my stomach yesterday has apparently disappeared; i’ve felt more or less fine all day. i probably ate something bad monday night, or something.

i think now i will go make tea and curl up with my book until gundam shows up. hooray.

today

spent a good chunk of today on the phone with nyu people, which of course didn’t resolve much. eventually i headed over to subway for a veggie sub, which was tasty, and which i threw up a couple of hours later. so that was fun. i mean, it doesn’t get much better than nausea, really!

i was planning on heading into the city this afternoon but i wasn’t feeling so great, so i napped and read most of the afternoon, and got my jet grind radio on. i’m almost done with it now; i’ve only got a couple levels left, and they’re kicking my ass. i was stuck on bantam street for a long time, but i finished it earlier today and i’m most of the way through chapter three now. fucking golden rhinos.

friday is four months with gundam; it seems like it was just three months but i suppose time flies. we’re probably going out to dinner somewhere, possibly this diner in the village we’ve been meaning to go to for a while.

today

aldiyen was here this weekend from massachusetts. gundam and i picked him up at the port authority on friday and there was much gaming and movie watching fun. we played a lot of jet grind radio, of which i just can’t get enough, and went to go see the harry potter movie. i saw it last weekend in seattle, but gundam and aldiyen hadn’t seen it so that was cool.

i have a headache right now so i think i’m going to not write a huge entry tonight, sorry. i think i require some excedrin and tea and reading in bed.

today

so yesterday was actually really nice. i headed to long island wednesday night since we had to be at gundam’s sister’s relatively early. matt, killah, ricky, and grant showed up, and we watched some movies and stuff. gundam and i also decided to clean out the iguana’s cage, which meant she couldn’t be in it, so i gave her a bath while gundam cleaned. normally she likes the water - she’ll splash around in the tub if there’s an inch or two in the bottom, or she’ll let the shower drip on her head - but i think the noise from the vacuum had her stressed out, so she climbed out the tub and up my leg and crawled under my sweatshirt, and i just let her sit on my shoulder till gundam was done with the cage. everyone left fairly early because we were tired and we had to get up in the morning, so after that we pretty much just went to bed.

yesterday morning gundam’s brother and his roommate picked us up and we all went over to his sister’s house for dinner, which was really good. she’s a vegetarian too, so she made sure there was plenty of stuff other than turkey for us to eat. we all filled up so much on mashed potatoes and veggie stuffing and sweet potatoes that we didn’t even have room for the pie. it was all mad tasty, and we sat around talking and drinking coffee for a while afterwards.

eventually i got a ride back to the train station and headed home. gundam and i had pondered going to the vnv show tonight, but we decided to skip it. we’ve already seen them twice before, and not that they aren’t fabulous live - we didn’t feel like finding tickets and heading into manhattan and everything. aldiyen is coming from boston today; i’m picking him up at the port authority later on and i want to do the dishes and clean up a little. my place is a bit of a wreck.

today

i’m not going to be heading to boston for thanksgiving this year; i’m going to gundam’s sister’s house instead. so that should be fun.

aldiyen is going to be here this weekend, so we’ll be taking him to the met and stuff. i’m looking forward to it.

today

so yes, i’m back and i had a fabulous time. thursday morning i was picked up my tycho and monkey, and we drove into the city for lunch. we ate at this place - i can’t remember the name - that serves these dome pizzas, where the toppings are all in a bowl and the dough is cooked on top, then the whole thing is flipped over. mighty tasty. after lunch we stopped at the lair of the filthy monkey, then walked up to tycho’s house to spend rather a lot of time with the monstrous xbox and the delicious halo. i am not a fan of the xbox controller at all - it’s entirely too large for my hands, which i guess are pretty small - but halo couldn’t have been much better.

eventually we dropped off brenna at neko’s, and tycho and the monkey and i went to this mexican place before walking over to the key area to see weezer. now, i wouldn’t say i’m a big weezer fan; in fact, before thursday i could count the number of times i’d listened to weezer on no hands. but i actually really enjoyed the show. jimmy somethingorother was okay, not spectacular but not horrid; tenacious d was really amusing. after the d, we decided to escape the hordes of small humans on the floor and claimed ourselves some seats for weezer. i really liked it, although by the end i was so tired (i didn’t go to sleep on wednesday) and the seats were so comfy that i was starting to doze off.

after the show we were all more or less zombified; the monkey dropped me off at gabe’s house, and after a little tekken (mmm arcade cabinet) we more or less went straight to bed.

friday morning monkey dropped tycho off at gabe’s on his way to work, and we all went out looking at several stores for a cable for tycho’s xbox, which we didn’t find, but i did get a bit of the tony hawk 3 action at one place, so i was pretty pleased. afterwards we had chinese and headed back to gabe’s, where we pretty much played metal gear solid 2 until we all grew old and died. that’s not to say it wasn’t fun: quite the contrary. it’s a great game, and it just goes on and on. i’m going to need to score myself a copy, i think, because even though we played even more of it on wednesday we didn’t quite finish it. we also played a little more halo when some of gabe’s friends showed up, then went out in search of sustenance. in the parking lot of a red robin, tycho and monkey and i were recognized by a friendly couple, and we all got to make fun of gabe because he couldn’t get the back window of an suv open to say hi.

after we gave up on actual restaurants and just got some takeout and brought it back to gabe’s house, we played a little harry potter trivia (i owned them all) and then headed out to see the movie itself. the line was long, and filled with people wearing pointy hats, but we already had tickets so it was all good. as for the movie itself: i liked it. less than fabulous aspects included the effects (there were two moments in particular where things were obviously rendered, but i won’t go into them) and a sense that the movie itself was either cut down quite a bit from the book - which it really wasn’t, and the film was in fact two and a half hours long - or that it was somehow rushed. nevertheless, the casting was absolutely flawless and the acting was great. i was worried, as one bad child actor can spoil an entire movie (see phantom menace), but the kids were all fantastic, especially ron. snape, hagrid, oliver wood, and madam hooch also struck me as perfect, as well as most of the rest of the cast. monkey hadn’t read the book before seeing the movie, and i think he was a little confused; if in doubt, i’d say reading the book first is a good idea. but either way, it’s a really enjoyable flick.

sunday was my last full day with the croo, but it was a good one. gabe and kara and i headed over to tycho’s relatively early and we had brunch at the stoneway, where i had a really amazing omelette even if the coffee was (as brenna put it) more coffee flavored water than the actual beverage itself. afterwards we walked over to gasworks park, where i really wished i’d brought my camera and we played a lot of frisbee. as tycho notes in his newspost, i’m really fucking awful at frisbee, but it was fun anyway. after we’d had our fill of wholesome outdoors fun, we headed over to pike market, which i really enjoyed. i picked up some ground ginger and market spice tea, as well as some harry potter and powerpuff girls paraphrenalia and some enticing hot sauce. tycho bought some raw honeycomb, which we all tasted. yum. eventually, we all headed back to gabe’s house, where we were joined by the monkey (he’d had to go to work after the park) and where we once more got our mgs2 on, pausing only for pizza and iron chef. eventually, we all started yawning and decided to call it a night, and i left the next morning.

yesterday i had dinner with gundam at ruby’s on 42nd st, and we stopped at the sanrio store where i picked up some cute chococat stickers for fourty cents. we also visited the hmv next door and i got to see james for the first time in eons, which was nice. it was getting fairly late at that point and we were both really tired (i think i may have caught brenna’s sore throat), so we walked to penn and headed home.

all in all, fun and games etc etc. i’d really like to go back and visit the seattleans again; it’s possible gundam and i will go at some point. but right now i’m tired, and my throat is being still more obnoxious, so i’m going to go make some tea.

today

my throat’s got that cold-weather-scratchy-sore thing going on. i am attacking it with turtlenecks and ricola and soup. i should buy a big soft scarf or something; i had one last year but i can’t find it. i might have left it in that cab with my coat back in the day.

since my head is freshly buzzed, it gets very cold very easily. i should stock up on hats. i have two that are almost identical, just your standard black wool hat. but maybe i should get that emily hat with the cat ears. i like cat ears. i’m glad i buzzed my head though, it looks really cool right now. i love the color, too.

i have this heap of halloween decorations i got with gundam on saturday; we hit old navy looking for undies for me and boxers for him and ended up finding a big sale on halloween stuff. i got this cute long sleeved black shirt with a glow in the dark skull for three dollars, and a bunch of those metallic garlands with pumpkins and bats and cats and stuff. gundam scored three or four pairs of boxers for fifty cents each, with ghosts and skulls and stuff. they’re really cute.

we also stopped at hot topic where gundam’s friend george works and i got this little mirror ball thing, which for some mysterious reason was mightily entertaining saturday night. gundam also got me this adorable little powerpuff girls beanie thing; i was torn between bubbles and blossom (they were out of buttercup) but i ended up snagging blossom.

right now i want something to eat. preferably soup. preferable hale & hearty’s broccoli cheddar in a bread bowl, but that’s probably not going to happen since i don’t feel like going all the way to manhattan for it. i think i will go get some ramen or cup noodle at the store and make that. woo.

today

okay, okay. i know i’ve been bad.

lesee, what was i up to this weekend. saturday gundam and i were thinking we’d go to the met, but it didn’t really work out that way. we woke up saturday morning and it was freezing outside and warm in bed and the met was all the way in the city and we were all the way out on long island, so we said fuck it. we’ll go later. the met’s not going anywhere.

we decided to fix up my hair instead; it’s now been freshly buzzed, bleached, and redyed. this time i used a mixture of sfx atomic pink and candy apple red, which is just obscenely bright red. it’s great. in sunlight, it gets pink highlights, and the rest of the time it’s sunglasses-wearing red. while waiting for bleach and dye and whatnot to set, we watched heathers and kenneth branagh’s interpretation of love’s labour’s lost, which was hilarious but reminded me i really need to get a copy of his hamlet.

saturday night we were going to head to batcave, but that didn’t happen either. which was fine, because matt and killah and some other people came over and we had quite a bit of non-club fun. so that was good.

sunday… laziness, thin crust pizza and hbo. yeah, we didn’t really do much this weekend but it was great. my hair looks very cool and i got plenty of sleep for once and a good time was had by all.

today

bought my tickets yesterday; i’m going to be flying american trans air, who i’ve never heard of, but who have a mad cheap fare to seattle as long as i can deal with sitting in chicago for a while. i have a gba. i will be fine. tycho and gabe and i are already starting to plan out what we’ll be up to during my more or less four days in seattle; i’ll also be chilling with safety monkey for a bit as we’re all going to see weezer on the night i arrive. i don’t really listen to weezer - in fact you could say that i have never listened to weezer - but i have been assured i will like it. the day after that is apparently also the opening of the harry potter movie which we’re going to go see. i am, again, completely unfamiliar with harry potter - i’ve avoided it because i find the surrounding advertising frenzy distasteful - but everyone i’ve asked says i should at least check out the first couple, so straylight (of #caoine fame) is picking them up for me in paperback. hooray for friends who work at barnes & noble. rstevens (also known as my sexy inter-net husband) is sending me off with a bunch of shirts - presumably for the boys. and i get one too. woohoo!

also, a quick note: i’ve already started getting the mad sacks of mail from seattleans who wish to Hook Up while i’m in their fair city - i appreciate it, i really do, but it’s already looking like i’m not going to have a lot of spare time, as i’m only going to be there for a couple of days. we’ll see what happens, though. i’m wading through said mail even as we speak and i’m going to try to reply to all of it, but if i don’t get to yours today: it does not mean i hate you. promise!

i need to go coat shopping today. i was a moron and left my coat in a cab last winter and i haven’t needed it since, but it’s getting colder here and tycho assures me i’ll want one when i get to seattle. i’m thinking something along the lines of army surplus. we’ll see.

i was cleaning out my cd tower last night and uncovered my old moxy früvous albums. it’s been god damned years since i’ve listened to this stuff. i used to dig it quite a bit back in maybe 97, but i guess it’s not quite my thing anymore. still entertaining, though. you can’t go wrong with a bunch of canadian nutbags.

hey, guess what: i have bagel bites, and i’m betting you don’t. i just wanted to rub that in a little.

update 11:51 am: i spoke too soon!

<emma> oh no!
<cwtycho> ?
<emma> i was inattentive to the bagel bite preparation instructions and have committed a horrible, cheesey genocide in my microwave
<cwtycho> sweet jesus no
<emma> it’s awful :<

today

i think it’s time for me to get a new pair of boots. my big stompy platforms look really cool but they’re too big for me and have no ankle support, my knee-high docs also look cool but give me heel blisters, my smaller docs are actually now i think too small (i’ve had them since tenth grade), my patent leather platforms are too tall to wear all the time, and my knee high patent leather gripfasts aren’t very comfortable. i’m thinking i want twenty eyelet steeltoed undergrounds or gripfasts.

i’ve decided this because of a fresh new set of blisters from my docs; it was wroth it, though. i had a good night. i took the q to union square and walked through the village to cafe 7a, where i met spencer. i haven’t been to 7a in ages, and it was weird walking past cloister cafe and veselka and enchantments and odessa and all the other places i used to hang out at a couple years ago. i got to the restaurant sort of early but i got a nice table by the window and read until spencer showed up; we had fries and veggie burger goodness and whatnot and caught up on the past few weeks. eventually we walked back up to the square and got coffee and wandered around staples for a while (office supplies are fun) and i headed home.

now i am tired. took out the trash and recycling and stuff; i’ll probably do the dishes and play tekken and go to bed or something. tomorrow night i’m going to gundam’s, i think. y4y!
