today

apparently burning man is going on right now. of all the tritely obvious overdone neohippie crap. any revelation that you have to go sit in a desert with a bunch of self-absorbed badly dressed retards to obtain probably isn’t worth it. if you want to be a hippie, be a hippie, fine. just don’t try to pretend you’re doing anything more enlightened or transcendental than sitting around in the sand with a bunch of stoned artfag morons. burning man as a concept isn’t any more original or interesting than some corporate weekend hiking retreat or a fucking family vacation to disney world. transcendentalism and philsophy through connection with the natural world has been done before, and been done better. go read emerson.

i can see burning man being interesting to people who still think drugs and naked people equal independence and free thinking, but come on. didn’t that get old in high school? just because the people are older and it lasts longer than a keg party on the beach, and it gets written up in wired instead of the school newspaper, it’s not necessarily any more complex. what’s different? there’s a bunch of pseudo artistic pretentious crap piled around the fringes and it costs more to participate? hoo boy, sign me up. invite some of the art students who hang around soho over to take e and draw on the floor for a week, you’ll have essentialy the same experience and you won’t have to shell out hundreds to have it.

today

more adventures in long island this weekend.

friday i hopped the q to manhattan fairly early, since gundam was getting out of work at two for staying until eight earlier in the week. it was really gorgeous out in the morning - on the cool side and windy and kind of overcast. it got warmer out later but not terribly hot.

before i picked up gundam i took the train up to herald square and then walked over to the hotel my parents are going to be staying at in october - my mom got a room so cheaply that she wanted to make sure it wasn’t a really skeezy dump or something. turns out the hotel itself is just being renovated so they’re giving everyone discounts; it was actually a really nice place. my parents are going to be in the city for another show of my dad’s sculpture, and i guess i’m actually going to be working the show with them as an exhibitor and stuff this time. so that should be fun.

i got to gundam’s office mad early, but it’s a fairly casual work environment so they don’t really mind me hanging out. i mostly draw on the whiteboards until he’s ready to leave. we got out of there around two and walked down to the post office so he could mail some stuff for torny, then walked down to st mark’s and hit a few stores. we weren’t really hungry so we didn’t bother actually going to lunch/dinner.

around four we walked back up towards union square and went to forbidden planet, where gundam was really sweet and got me some aliens graphic novels, then went to see tim burton’s planet of the apes at the theater across the street. i’ve heard a lot of bad things about it - either people think it was too much like the original or too different. personally, i really liked it. we were very much in the mood to just soak up a couple of hours of gorgeous tim burton visuals and check out helena bonham carter and tim roth as apes, so it’s not like we had these towering expectations. it’s not like i’m never going to watch the original again now, or something, but i still really enjoyed it.

after the movie we headed back to gundam’s office for a bit so he could drop off some stuff, then took the q back to my house and were lazy geeks for the rest of the night. can’t go wrong.

saturday we ended up waking up really early, and gundam went out to get us breakfast. we ate cereal in bed and watched saturday morning cartoons - digimon, spiderman, etc. yes, we’re in our twenties. shut up. we lazed around for a while - went out for cigarettes and chinese food but mostly just read and played dreamcast. eventually we showered and dressed and all that and started getting ready for batcave.

batcave was pretty cool; i hadn’t been in a couple of weeks so it was nice to see everyone again. straylight and d_mambo from #penny-arcade were there, so that was cool. without even planning it, it ended up that i was wearing my transformers autobot shirt, and gundam was wearing his decepticon shirt. so that was sort of geekishly cute, i thought. i ran into voltaire, who was appreciative of my shirt, and of course all the other usual people were there too. matty, killah, al, dino, brian, gerard, etc etc. we didn’t end up staying too late - we left around two thirty or three - but i think a good time was had by all.

we ended up taking the train back to long island with matty and killah and al instead of going back to brooklyn, what with gundam’s superior a/c and everything. i slept most of the way home but woke up in time for a flock of drunken winners to recognize gundam from years ago and sit down with us. that was, um, fun. we eventually got home around four and went to bed.

sunday i decided not to bother going back to brooklyn and just spent the day with gundam in long island. we woke up to carmine asking us did we want bagels, so we got up and had really yummy fresh bagels and oj. we weren’t quite ready to really get up yet, so we climbed back in bed and watched the fifth element until steve asked did we want to go to a barbecue at his mom’s to celebrate his twenty eighth birthday. and of course we did, because steve is rad. so we got dressed and piled into steve’s car, and headed off to his mom’s house, after a brief stop for code red slurpees at 7-11. steve’s mom turns out to be really nice in a classically mom way, and we sprawled in her nice shady back yard for most of the afternoon with assorted siblings and aunts and dogs and cats. what with the whole vegetarianism thing i wasn’t really down with the burgers and hot dogs, but i made a pasta salad sandwich and all was well. steve has this really adorable six month old niece who was completely fascinated by my bracelets - we’re convinced she’s going to grow up to be a raver. there was even a carvel ice cream cake which of course reminded me of snarf. so that was fun. we headed home around seven and watched aliens movies until we fell asleep.

monday morning we got up ass early, had leftover bagels, and headed into the city. i slept on the lirr, woke up at penn, walked to herald square, and then slept all the way home. hooray.

today

what a weekend. i’m exhausted. more tomorrow, i promise.

today

housey stuff today. laundry, dishes, cleaned the bathroom, etc etc. i lost one of the pillowcases to my favorite set of sheets, god dammit. my closet probably ate it, i’ll dissect that tomorrow. found a shirt gundam left here a looooooooooooooooong time ago.

it so needs to be fall. gundam and i are going to go visit my parents next weekend or the weekend after; massachusetts is so pretty in autumn. it’s probably not going to be much to see yet, though. it will only just barely be september when we get there and probably still hot. my dad has promised to take us sailing, though, so that should be fun.

but so yeah. enough of this summer crap. i want hoodie weather already. i wanna tromp around the city with my orange haired boy and get coffee and be chilly and stuff. mmm. i need to buy a new winter coat relatively soon. i left mine in a cab last winter and i never bothered to get a new one. i think i’ll hit an army navy store or something. i miss my old coat, it was this too-big-for-me black thing spencer gave me that was mad long on me since he’s so much taller than i am, and i sewed up a bunch of rips and tears and whatnot and it was pretty reet. oh well.

i need to go furniture shopping. my apartment came semi-furnished and the shitty-ass dresser that was already here doesn’t hold all my clothes, so when everything is clean at once i have to get creative with my clothing storage. right now i have my pants stacked on my radiator. good thing the heat’s not on.

tomorrow i am heading into the city early to check out a hotel my parents will be staying at for a show my dad has in the city in october (he’ll be showing more of his sculpture), then mid afternoon i am heading downtown to pick up gundam. he gets out early tomorrow and we’re going to go see the planet of the apes i think. maybe dinner at the zen palate. mmm.

today

it’s been gorgeous out the past couple of days. i don’t expect it to stay like this - i’m sure we’ll have a few more drippy scorching hellish days, at least, but it’s really, really nice thinking summer’s almost over.

i headed into the city around eight last night and picked gundam up from work; we got some oj to have with breakfast and headed to brooklyn. i made pasta and salad and we had kind of a late dinner around 10, then watched high art. he’d never seen it and i thought of it on saturday when we were watching a much younger ally sheedy in the breakfast club. it’s a pretty good movie; a little artfaggy but visually appealing. i really like the cinematography.

we woke up sevenish and had breakfast and gundam went to work. i ended up falling asleep again and not really getting up till around eleven. i’m listening to a cd he burned for me a couple days ago - it’s almost all songs containing samples from the aliens movies, it’s really cool. i have a heap of dishes from last night to do but i’ll probably get to those later. i also need to take in my laundry and i could really go for a long bath. i’m kind of sore today for some reason. it’s a mystery!

i think right now i’m going to put on alien 3 and start sorting laundry. i’m not seeing gundam tonight unfortunately, but i’ll see him tomorrow or friday. since he stayed late yesterday he might be leaving mad early on friday so we’ll probably go gallvanting around the village. i think we’re getting new goggles for gundam, and i need new bootlaces and some other stuff. probably we’ll hit batcave on saturday, although who can say. lately saturday rolls around and we’re just too comfy and lazy hanging out at home with each other to want to do much else. but maybe.

ok. laundry. iced coffee. dishes. aliens. hooray.

today

ok. the dust is still settling after the move, but i’m starting to get everything back together. the guestbook may or may not be returning; i was thinking about it and i don’t actually really like it all that much. email me if you have something to say to me. speaking of which, my new email address for pretty much everything and to which my old one will forward is emma@caoine.org. werd.

this weekend was essentially perfect. friday afternoon i met up with gundam and we wandered down to st mark’s place. hit a couple of stores, checked to see if p3t3 was home (he wasn’t) and grabbed dinner at dojo. we amazingly shitty service the last time we went there but friday was great.

after supper we caught the train and went to gundam’s house, and lerfed around for most of the evening. irc, movies, etc. it’s cool because when we hang out we don’t even have to be doing anything and it’s still fun. gundam is the coolest ever. i am a lucky girl.

saturday we woke up latish. i don’t remember when exactly. eventually we got dressed and hit the mall for hair dye. i got some new emily socks to wear with boots or shorts - they’re black and red striped knee-highs that say emily at the top. they’re adorable. i also got a funker vogt shirt and a couple more pins for my bag. we walked home and watched invader zim for a while. best show ever. then gundam bleached and dyed his hair - no more green! now it’s uberbright traffic cone orange. it’s really, really cool. i’m going to take some pictures when he comes over tomorrow, because it’s definitely the brightest color i’ve ever seen on anyone’s head. i wonder how long it will last.

we were gonna hit batcave on saturday night; becky was going to drive us in but she ended up going to detour and we weren’t in the mood to deal with the train, so matt and killah came over and we watched movies. alien, alien resurrection, the fifth element, breakfast club. an odd assortment. i had this blue glowstick that had been sitting in my bag for who knows how long and we cracked it at like 2am to play with, and it didn’t stop glowing until about 6 last night. yeah, we’re dorks.

we didn’t get to sleep till almost five and slept until about eleven. didn’t get up till about noon though. gundam, being the incredible sweetheart that he is, went out and got us milk and count chocula. goth breakafast, woo. i headed home around 3 or so and got back to brooklyn at like 5:30. we picked up some black cd-r’s and cases at staples on friday, so i spent most of last night burning stuff. i copied my opera cd’s for my parents since their stuff is still all on tape, and i made a mix for gundam. hooray.

today

so i’ve been mia for a few days because i’ve actually been finding a new host for caoine, and i’ve finally got everything moved to the new box. i’m being hosted by derPapst, the nicest geek ever. expect things like the guestbook and my other domains, like precarious.org and disintegrate.org, to be broken for a few days while i finish getting settled. my primary goal has just been to get the site transferred to the new server and change the domain info appropriately.

my former email address, emma@thorns.org, is also going to be changing - i’ll let you know what it will be changing to when i figure that out myself. precarious and disintegrate can be reached as subdirectories of caoine until i get the domains sorted out - so precarious.org will be at http://caoine.org/precarious/, etc. the webcam address will probably remain the same unless i do some directory structure cleanup, which i might.

anyway, thanks for bearing with me. i know how irritating it is when something like the webcam or the journal goes un-updated for almost a week, and i’m sorry. there wasn’t really much i could do, though. hopefully things will be running smoothly again within the next couple of days.

today

busy! journal will be back in a few days.

today

there’s another heat advisory in effect for new york city today. blah. i’m essentially counting the seconds until summer is over; it’s too hot to do much else.

i’m meeting gundam after work today; i’m invading his place tonight to soak up his infinitely superior air conditioning. among other things. last night i had my a/c on and no sheets on the bed and i was still way too hot to sleep; his room is deliciously chilly, though. we’ll probably watch more movies. i still haven’t seen all the aliens movies. which is, i realize, a travesty.

right now i’m thinking cold shower. it makes me unhot for at least a little while and i need to shave anyway. hooray!

today

hooray for god damned motherfucking heat waves. it was 96 and humid today; i’ve taken like four showers and it’s still too hot to move. same weather for tomorrow as well, supposedly. i really need to replace my air conditioner; it’s been here since before i moved in and spencer says he bought it about four years ago. it’s basically just a sucky fan at this point. i might go camp out in gundam’s office and soak up their ac.

been playing some sonic 2; it’s pretty silly. the most entertaining part of the game is the little chao world thing. i have three chao now. hooray.

gundam’s probably coming over tomorrow or thursday. i have to think of non-hot dinner possibilities. pasta salad is yummy but you still have to cook the pasta first which still makes the whole god damn kitchen really hot. i’ll think of something. i have been subsisting mostly on code red and subway veggie subs. num.
