today

today: boring domesticity and financial stress. took a couple trips my friendly neighborhood chase manhattan branch to cash in the really absurd quantity of change i’ve collected over the past few months, picked up a couple things at the grocery store, did the dishes, cleaned up the house a little. none of the aforementioned activies leap to mind, exactly, when i think of “fun”, but i’m in a good mood, nonetheless. gundam’s coming over tomorrow night for supper and dreamcasting (yes matt, dreamcasting), so the cleaning and groceries and whatnot is mostly in preparation for that. not that gundam hasn’t already seen my apartment pretty much at its worst, but you know. the general idea is that i’m going to attempt to cook dinner, we’ll play some sonic adventure 2, and then probably watch a movie or something. i am far from confident in my abilities to actually produce an edible meal (much less a spectacular one), but if worse comes to worst we’ll get chinese or something. i somehow doubt the food will be the primary focus of the evening.

the financial stress: yeah, i’m still jobless. i dunno. the market really sucks right now, it’s depressing as hell. i’m on unemployment for the moment but that doesn’t last forever. i’ve been talking to my parents and there’s noise about me maybe going back to school. i’d really rather be working, but it’s not like i have a hell of a lot of options at the moment. i guess we’ll see what happens. if nothing else, i’m good for a couple more months. i have a nice apartment, an adorable boyfriend, and a little time left to try and find a job. it could be a lot worse.

today

yeah, so. you all probably saw this coming: gundam and i are doing the real live couple thing now. i mean, come on: an adorable rivetgeek with green hair and an iguana. how could i resist?

this weekend was fun; we watched a bunch of movies and never really got around to cooking, but that’s ok. a good time was had by all.

sleepy! bed time. more tomorrow.

today

i’m almost done with my new portfolio site - i’ve got a couple of new job leads so i’m anxious to get this live as soon as possible. it’s not really in my usual style, but i rather like it. i just want to get it done before i get sucked in by another project or something.

i’m heading to long island shortly to lerf around with gundam again. i think the general idea is that we’re going to watch clerks and attempt cooking something. it should be fun.

i have code red and clean undies. hooray!

today

yesterday was just unfairly hot. it was really thickly, humidly hot. you could be sitting perfectly motionless and you’d still be aware of how incredibly hot it was. luckily, gundam has a really fabulous air conditioner. i have a/c too, but mine is sort of old and ineffectual. it’s not much better than a fan, really. so i hopped the q (which replaces the d in brooklyn, now, and the q express replaces the old q - shock!) to union square and we headed out to long island.

steve picked us up from the lirr station and we hit 7-11 on our way back to their house. outside the store there was this huge banner advertising the apparently must-taste code red slurpee - being fans of both code red AND slurpee, gundam and i were naturally thrilled. so we go inside, go over to the slurpee machine, where there’s another huge sign portraying this really happy guy sipping a code red slurpee - i think the idea here is that he’s happy because he’s sipping a code red slurpee, but i could be wrong - and our anticipation is renewed. but, but! get this: there is no code red slurpee. there’s like regular mountain dew slurpee, and fucking banana or something, but no code red! i mean, what? that’s just not fair. you don’t get someone’s hopes up like that, only to leave them hanging. gundam went over and yelled at the clerk dude, but to no avail - he mumbled something about there maybe being code red slurpee tomorrow, but i think that was more a response born of abject terror at this really tall guy with green hair yelling at him. so. no code red slurpee for us. we did, however, get regular slurpees and they were, it has to be said, pretty good. just to reiterate our indignation, though, i stole one of the signs off the slurpee machine. it’s in my bag right now. that’ll learn ‘em.

so we got back to gundam’s and steve’s house and we geeked around for a while; gundam made a valiant effort at preparing something involving pasta and peas, but it was not meant to be. we watched american psycho again - sober this time! so that was good. we had to get up entirely too early this morning to catch the train back to manhattan with carmine, but at least it’s less hot today. it rained, too, so it’s almost nice out, even.

a word about that bottom camstill: the got root hoodie was sent to me by tycho, who might just be the best tycho ever. all those other tychos - forget about them. they don’t even come close. the pants are actually gundam’s - i, uh, borrowed them.

today

it is unacceptably hot today. god damn, do i hate summer. isn’t it october yet?

i have an air conditioner, but it’s kind of shitty - i guess spencer bought it a few years ago, because it was already falling apart when i moved in and it’s even worse now than it was last summer. i think maybe i will just go burrow in gundam’s mad chilly room until we’re halfway through september at least. i could sneak out for slurpees once in a while. you know.

i finished snow crash today - i really liked it, although you can tell stephenson wrote cryptonomicon later. the writing in the latter is a little better, i think, although the setting in the former appeals to me more. they’re both great books, no doubt about it. i guess i’ll check out diamond age next; i’ve been told that one’s mad cool as well.

talked to bryan for a long time today; we were a little pissy at each other earlier because of some lameness in #velvetacidchrist but we’re cool again. it’s weird - i’ve known him for what i guess is creeping up on a year, now. it’s strange to think that. the past couple of years have gone by so quickly, but so much shit has happened.

gundam and i may or may not hit batcave this weekend; we’re both running a little low on fundage what with rent day coming up soon so i’m guessing we’ll probably stay in. but given how gross the weather has been that’s probably a good thing.

today

the shot above is one of a whole slew of photos gundam and i took at batcave on saturday. there were a few #penny-arcade people there too - duncan, who was in town for macworld, ukemi who i guess lives in new york, and d_mambo who gundam and i see everywhere.

anyway gundam came over preclub and we watched run lola run again and then headed into the city; we got to downtime at like 10 so we could see snarf’s band play. they were pretty good; there’s a couple shots of them in that directory i mentioned above - they’re the spirit valentine ones.

so batcave was mad fun. i overdid it a little and got kind of sick partway through but i felt better soon enough and all was well. we stayed until like 3:30; becky drove in so she had her car with her, and she was nice enough to drive me, gundam, and sinibyte back to long island. gundam and i watched part of aliens when we got back but we weren’t really in a movie-watching kind of mood at that point.

we woke up mad early on sunday even though we’d only slept for like three hours; we walked over to the store to get food for us and for gundam’s iguana, then ate and nitzed around for a while and i headed home.

today i have just been working on a project i’m doing for penny arcade; my part of it is mostly done at this point and it should be cool when it’s all finished and everything.

hooray!

today

went to macworld yesterday with rich; someone from #p-a hooked me up with a couple of free passes at the last minute so i figured why not. it was pretty cool; we didn’t stay that long but we got some nifty swag. nvidia gave out these rubber balls that flash when you bounce them. and i have a yellow dog linux shirt. heh.

after macworld i headed back to penn and met up with gundam; we went up to times square and saw final fantasy at that huge-ass theatre that was showing akira before. cherry slushies. werd. the movie was coo; i wasn’t blown away, probably because i wasn’t really into the games, but it was definitely not bad at all. visually really stunning, entertaining, etc etc. a good time was had by all. we hit ruby’s diner after - it’s pretty cool, it’s all fifties style. and they make a mean veggie burger. after that we pretty much headed to brooklyn and watched the matrix until we got tired.

yeah so. tomorrow i’m gallavanting with gundam again i think; i might head over to cbgb’s in the evening but i might not. saturday is batcave; snarf’s band is playing so i’ll definitely be there for that.

today

one of those weekends where it’s not a series of separate distinct things that happen one after another (like having lunch, watching a movie, sleeping), each of which may or may not be fun in and of itself- not so much one of those weekends as one entire weekend-long thing which you know even before it’s over that it’s funner than any other weekend will be for a while. it’s not so much “what i did this weekend” as “what happened to be going on while this whole weekend phenomenon was occuring”.

but so yeah, fun times. maui tacos in herald square and tekken tag at some nerd store, lirr, hot topic (my first time in one, ever!), a toy store, walking, fight club, dnb, ingestion, chinese food i couldn’t finish, irc, gundam’s hair on fire, american psycho, etc etc. slurpees were consumed. a good time was had by all.

today

i’m the nerdiest nerd that ever nerded. i’ve spent all day working on my sites and setting up a new bot for #thorns. hanging out with gundam in li tomorrow, so that should be fun. i’ve only ever been to long island once and i wasn’t really impressed, but that was for a club and the only thing that really stands out from that experience is that it takes a really fucking long time to get to li from my house and that people at sphere can’t dance. so.

the new version of the site is coming along pretty well i think. i’m going to try to finish it up soon, if possible, because i’ve just been given another (top secret) pa related project that’s going to be priority after this weekend, so i won’t have that much time for my site. i’ll get it done eventually either way, though, and i’m really psyched about the pa thing, so it’s all good.

oof. i gave myself eyestrain yesterday and today from being such a complete and utter dork and working at a monitor for way too long without interruption. i started working on my site yesterday at 7am and didn’t really stop until about 4am this morning, and then i slept till noon and started again when i woke up. i’ve been setting up my eggdrop for the past hour or so, though. i’ve run gruftis and sobots before but never an eggdrop, and i wanted to see what they were like, so.

i’m like forty pages from finishing cryptonomicon. it’s so good. i want to read his other books, since by all reports they’re actually better than this one. i can’t wait. i’ll probably finish cryptonomicon sometime tonight, or tomorrow morning, or whatever.

i think ima go give my eyes a rest. my vision is pretty sucky as it is now, and i don’t really want to make it worse.

today

working on redesigning caoine.org. it’s looking pretty cool so far but i can already tell it’s going to be a bitch to write. it’s easy to make something all pretty in photoshop but actually making it a functional navigable site is the hard part. of course it’s also the fun part. but. i’m probably not going to get it done for a few days, and that’s only the front page.

incidentally i have a crush on this site. dayum. i liked the previous design too.

i’m also in another housecleaning phase. i wish my budget weren’t so tight; i have a couple of my domains coming up for renewal, a huge ass phone bill, not to mention certain other expenses (cough). but most of my furniture is really shitty and i wish i could replace it. i mean, i got it for free from spencer so it’s not like it was a ripoff, but i’ve been living here over a year and i still haven’t really got much of my own stuff here. plus i have to finish getting some crap that was left here out so i have more room. my dad has offered to drive up to the city and help me do apartment stuff and i might take him up on that.

dr_eclipz and i moved #velvetacidchrist (and #ohGr, thanks to deCay) to slashnet today; efnet has pretty much exploded and we can’t be bothered anymore. slashnet is more stable and has services, so hooray.

hanging out with gundam in li this weekend. movies. stuff. should be fun. change of pace from batcave anyway. i live cave, but you can only go so many weeks in a row.
